WEST VIRGINIA PTA
The West Virginia PTA was chartered in 1923 and has a proud tradition of serving children, families, schools, and communities across the Mountain State through advocacy, leadership, and family engagement. As the official state affiliate of the National PTA, West Virginia PTA is part of the nation’s oldest and largest volunteer child advocacy organization, founded in 1897 to improve the education, health, and safety of all children.
For decades, West Virginia PTA has empowered parents, teachers, students, and community leaders to work together to support every child’s success. Through local PTAs and councils across the state, the organization has promoted strong family-school partnerships, encouraged volunteerism, and provided leadership opportunities for parents and educators alike.
West Virginia PTA has made a lasting impact through programs and initiatives that support students both inside and outside the classroom. The association proudly sponsors the National PTA Reflections Arts Program, giving students opportunities to express themselves creatively through visual arts, photography, literature, dance choreography, music composition, and film production. West Virginia students have earned recognition at both the state and national levels for their artistic achievements.
The organization has also focused on strengthening local PTA units by providing leadership training, membership development resources, advocacy support, and guidance for organizing new PTAs throughout the state. Through statewide conventions, leadership workshops, scholarships, and recognition programs, West Virginia PTA continues to build strong school communities and encourage meaningful parent involvement.
Throughout its history, PTA advocacy efforts nationwide have helped advance many important educational and child welfare initiatives, including kindergarten programs, school lunch programs, child labor protections, public health services, arts education, and school safety efforts. West Virginia PTA continues that legacy by advocating for children and public education while remaining a nonpartisan organization dedicated to making every child’s potential a reality.
Today, West Virginia PTA remains committed to its mission of supporting families, engaging communities, and ensuring every child has the opportunity to succeed. Through advocacy, arts education, leadership development, and community partnerships, West Virginia PTA continues to make a positive difference for children across the state.
